THE BELVEDERE MUSEUM TO FEATURE FREDRIKSON STALLARD
October 5, 2016 5:01 pmFredrikson Stallard will exhibit two major artworks Prologue & Hurricane with the Belvedere during Vienna Design Week 2016. The Belvedere is one of the world’s most stunning baroque landmarks and since 2001 has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As one of Austria’s most renowned museums the Belvedere houses an impressive collection of Austrian art dating from the Middle Ages to the present day.
Iconography of the sun
Prologue is a standing circular sculpture weighing 1.2 tons and holding over 8,000 topaz-coloured Swarovski crystal droplets within a 4 metre diameter patinated steel frame. The luminous ring mimics the shimmering sun, and its circular form is both a powerful representation of new beginnings and an abstract symbol of life and rebirth.
Hurricane – dialogue between past and present
Fredrikson Stallard will present a second art installation in the Marble Hall of the Belvedere Palace. Hurricane is a set of two gold mirrors created from crushed mirror-polished aluminium. Each piece is hand-formed with unique folds and angles. The gold metal complements the amber hue of Prologue, and its hyper-contemporary look serves to highlight the Belvedere’s baroque aesthetic and the important artworks within, in particular its large collection of paintings by Gustav Klimt.
